Space

I am in an Art Show called "Mything In Action" that opens tonight at Grand Central in Santa Ana. It is kind of a retrospective of the gallery, BC Space, where I have the good fortune to show at from time to time. I had no idea what pieces were going to be included. Because I gave a big roll of old work to Mark Chamberland, BC Space gallery owner.
So I got a call last night from Andrea Harris asking me about the titles of the work. She described them to me. The first was easy, it was "Fatigued"...an American flag I made out of my brother's Air Force fatigues. The second piece was another American flag, but gray fleece and silver with pink thread and...??? I racked my brain trying to remember what work it was. Suddenly I remembered some baby blankets I made for my boys out of gray polar fleece (on sale!) and the cool silver fabric I lined them with and silver shapes appliqued along the periphery. While I was at it I made an American flag out of it because that was what I was doing. It just got rolled in with the work...but I have never shown it and it never really gelled as art for me. OH NOOOOOO!!! This was like having the diaper mistaken for the linens! So what to call this thing?
Umm. Errr. Uhhhh... SPACE! (the final frontier...these are the echoing hallways of Lynn's brain, now reeling in the years) and then I launched into a quick discussion of the Apollo Landing on black and white TV in the 60's and how mysterious and silvery the flag image seemed.
So...next label for soap is: SPACE! With an image of the Apollo landing and the flag (but it will be a bar of soap on a stick). This will be a green and black, spearmint, sage bar of soap.
